This annual two-day conference unites
industry leaders and public officials with a stake in the Northeast energy
markets to discuss and debate critical industry issues. Concerns over climate
change and an increased desire to control carbon emissions have spurred debate
over an appropriate fuel mix to meet increasing regional demand. Many questions
remain unanswered. How should more renewables and demand side management
policies be encouraged? How can market price signals be delivered promptly and
efficiently to end users? How can energy facility siting be encouraged, without
sacrificing environmental protection? How can resource adequacy requirements be
met given growing regional demand and aging electric generation facilities?
Finally, how can an adequate transmission and distribution infrastructure be
maintained, allowing benefits from solving these issues to flow to all end
users? The implementation of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and the
carbon tax debate further complicate these concerns.
This conference will update attendees on the search
for solutions and offer insight into the quandary of balancing energy supply
needs with climate change concerns. Keynote addresses will be provided by Thomas
F. Farrell II, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dominion and Arnold MacBurnie, Senior
Vice President, Shell Energy North America (Canada) Inc. Distinguished experts
from all sectors of the industry, regulators and policymakers from all six New
England states, and public policy advocates will offer their candid views and
in-depth analyses on key topics, including:
-
New England States: Framing the Policies
-
Greenhouse Gas Policy Initiatives
-
Fuel Diversity and Reliability in Light of FCM and RGGI
-
The Private Sector Response
-
Regulatory Solutions
-
Taking Stock: Ending Thoughts on Meeting the Challenges
The conference exhibition hall will offer
